Current Carrying Capacity Calculator
Important disclaimer
Results given by the Current Calculator are to be used as reference only. These figures should be considered as a useful guide only. Many other factors such as the cooling and air flow over the board will have a marked effect. No responsibility can be taken for their use whatsoever.
The Calculator
All conductors which carry current will be at a temperature higher than air temperature by a temperature rise (above air temperature) T which depends upon current carried (I) Amperes , conductor width (W) and copper thickness.
For a 1 oz/ft² copper foil PCB there is an empirical formula. Assume a 40°C (104°F) maximum T and determine the maximum current allowed through the conductors can be derived using this calculator.
Using the Minnitron Ltd. current calculator is easy:
The unknown value will then be calculated.
